Awards for Kilkenny Stars

Saturday night was Athletics Leinster – Stars Awards Night, in the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow. Athletes, Coaches, Officials and friends from around the province gathered to celebrate another exceptional year for Leinster Athletics.

The three Kilkenny athletes to receive The Star Awards were juveniles, Laura Langton, Kilkenny City Harriers, and Jack Saunders, St Joseph’s and senior athlete, Eoin Muldowney, Castlecomer. For Laura and Jack this was their second time to be so honoured as both were recipients of Star Awards at last year’s ceremony. And having been worthy recipients for their efforts during 2009 they both showed continued improvement throughout 2010 to make them excellent awardees at this year’s event.

Jack Saunders won three gold medals at the under 18 Leinster Indoor Championships –60m, 200m and Triple Jump. During the track and field season he landed two further golds(400m and Triple jump)and also silver in 100m and200m. Laura Langton, competing in the Girls Under18 Championships had an equally impressive Leinster campaign. Among her achievements were three firsts in the Indoors – 60m, 200m and 300m and two firsts Outdoors – 200m and 300m Hurdles.

Eoin Muldowney received the Senior Star Award for Kilkenny. His achievements included gold in 200m and silver in 60m at the Leinster Indoors and double silver in 100m and 200m on the Outdoor track. Kilkenny City Harriers took two of the club awards – The Hehir Shield for Best Relay Club in Leinster and The Mick Byrne Cup for best Indoor Club.
