The Novice and masters races took place today in the bright sunshine in Gowran.
In the first Race of the Day, 3k Novice Women, the county lead was lead home by Megan Morrissey, Thomastown AC, to take the silver medals, also making that team were Anne marie O Grady (8th) and Donna Dowling (10th) of KCH and Sheila Carroll of Castlecomer AC. KCH also took silver with Sarah Nolan(14th) and Kate Millea (15th) making up their club team. Thomastown also had a strong team with Megan Morrissey
Niamh O Shea, Aoife O Connor, Margaret Power, Laura Walpole and Irma Moore but alas failed to make the medals.
Star Kilkenny performer of the day was St Senans Conor Rochford in the Novice Men’s Race, biding his time and making his move on the final lap to comfortably take the bronze medal. Thomstown AC led by Pat Reilly along with Danny Shanahan, Liam O Shea and Bill Carroll again were out of luck when the medals were being given out.
The masters Mens Race proved to be a happy hunting ground for Kilkenny athletes with 2 individual category medals and two sets of team medal going to Gowran and one individual medal to KCH.
Mick Kelly, Gowran AC was first Kilkenny man home and he was 2nd in the M35 category. KCH Athlete Eoin Molloy will be well pleased with his 3rd place bronze also in the M35 category. Gowran AC won team bronze in this ctegory also with Simon O Dwyer (fresh from Rotterdam Marathon) 12th, Paul Deegan 14th, and “The Orangeman” Gary Farrell in 37th making up the team.
In the M45 section Paul Deegan and Sean Caulfield sprinted in the home straight for the indivdual Bronze with Deegan taking the prize.
The icing on the cake for Gowran AC came with a set of bronze medals in the M50 team section, the team consisting of three well known young men, Mick Walsh, Marty Kelly and Denis Cormack.
St Josephs had a strong team with Patrick Bookle, Rocky Mernagh, Micheal Power and Tom McDonald but unfortunately they went home empty handed.

Thanks to Denis Cormack and his team for great organisation and the catering laid on by the club for the athletes afterwards was second to none.
