Co Juvenile B Championships Sun 22nd Jan 2011

The fog and frost cleared early for the re-fixed B championships in Thomastown on Sunday. A good turnout resulted in some top class competition.

The gold medals in the younger ages were well spread.

The girls and boys under 7’s were won by Emma Minogue, Kilkenny City Harriers (KCH), and Billy Power, Thomastown and in the under 9’s Sarah O’Donnell, Gowran won the girls race and Castlecomer’s Sean O’Dornan was the boy’s champion.

Gowran’s Nicole Carter put in a great finish to win the girls under 11 and the Gowran club struck gold again in the boys race with a great performance from David O’Carroll. KCH figured strongly in the under eleven team event with teams finishing first (Aisling Maher, Ella Richardson, Ruth Kent), second (Rachel Kelly, Eva FitzGerald, Hannah Kelly) and fourth (Adrienne King, Rebecca Roche, Clare Maher). Thomastown were third (Caoimhe Kelly, Lizzie Buckley, Ciara Morrissey). KCH were again first team (Evan Clarke, Martin Nolan, Sean Burke) in boys under eleven. St Senan’s (Lee Tracey, Ben Rochford, Bill Dempsey) were second and Nore Valley, Inistioge (Jamie Holden, Alex Hutt, James Gray) took the bronze team medals.

Thomastown’s Sive Behan and Stephen Wemyss were the individual winners in girls and boys under 13. Team gold in the girls race went to St Senans (Anne Marie Moloney, Cliona Murphy, Sinead McEvoy) and the boys race was won by Nore Valley (Shane Molloy, Caoimhin Lynch, Harry Murphy).

Anna Sheehan, KCH, set an early lead in the girls under 15 race and continued on to a comprehensive victory. With Nicola Murphy 5th and Aoibhe Richardson 6th KCH also won team gold. Castlecomer were second with Lauren Dermody, Grace Deevy and Orla Brennan. When Donal Carroll entered the finish chute ahead of the chasing runners in the boys under 15 there was another gold in the bag for the Castlecomer club
