Leinster Juvenile Track and Field Team events, Crettyard Sat June 11th

There were some good performances by a number of Kilkenny teams at the Leinster Team championships in Crettyard on Saturday.

One of those performances brought gold to Rebecca Keane, Ciara Deely, Ella Richardson and Leah Raggett, for the under 12 girls.

The under 15 Boys team of Aaron Barron, Craig Byrne, Shane McGeary and Jack Manning worked extremely hard and were rewarded with silver medals.

The club’s under 13 teams pulled off the double.

The Girls, fielding two teams, were out in force. The A team of Jennifer O’Keeffe, Sinead Tuohy, Clare Kirwan and Keeva O’Brien were excellent winning gold, thanks in no small way to Keeva’s personal best of 4.13 meters in the Long Jump. The B team of Annie O’Connor, Shauna Millea, Aisling Morrissey and Kathy Long performed excellently to finish in fourth place.

The under 13 boys were well served by regulars Luke FitzPatrick and John Nolan. Their performances combined with the spirited run over the hurdles and in the relay by Ryan Poyntz and Ronan Quinn earned them first place.

Thomastown A.C

Thomastown had three team competing and were medal winners in all three events. The girls U10 were the stars of the day taking gold medals with the U10 boys getting silver and bronze for the U9 girls.

The teams consisted of four athlete with each athlete competing in two events plus a relay with points given for placing in each event (1 point for 1st, 2 points 2nd, — 10 points for 10th etc) the team with the lowest overall score declared the winner.

In the U9 girls Thomastown team was Aine Kirwan, Anna Cass, Roisin Moran, Sinead Galway.

The events the competed in were 500m Aine Kirwan & Roisin Moran, 60m Anna Cass & Sinead Galway, Long Jump Aine Kirwan & Anna Cass, Ball Throw, Roisin Moran & sinead Galway.

The Girls over placing was 3rd.

In the Boys U10 the team was Jordan Knight, Peter Connellan, Tom Holden, Liam Treacy. The events they competed in were 500m and long jump, Anna Cass competing 500m Liam Treacy & Tom Holden, 60m Jordan Knight & Peter Connellan, Ball throw Tom Holden & Liam Treacy, Long Jump Peter Connellan & Jodan Knight.

The boys overall placing was 2nd.

In the Girls U10 the Team was Ciara O’Keeffe, Orla O’Keeffe, Roisin Dempsey and Dearbhala O’Reilly. The events they competed in were – 500m Ciara O’Keeffe & Orla O’Keeffe, 60m Orla O’Keeffe & Dearbhala O’Reilly, Ball Throw Dearbhala O’Reilly & Roisin Dempsey, Long Jump Ciara O’Keeffe & Roisin Dempsey.

The Girls overall placing was 1st.
