The final round County Road Race Championship series was held in Gowran today in mild humid conditions. The course was deceptively testing with a few nice long hills to test the athletes strength and Stamina.
In the women’s 8k race Ann Doyle of Gowran AC was the clear winner, in a time of 35.44, with 1 minute 11 secs to spare over Maria Murphy KCH who finished in a time of 36.55. Ciara Martin KCH took bronze in a time of 38.16. Gowran AC took team gold also with Martina Prendergast, 42.30, Lisa Hennessy, 43.40 and Annette Fitzpatrick, 46.02 completing the team.
The mens 10 mile race also produced a clearcut winner when David McPherson, KCH, powered to vic tory in emphatic style and recorded a top class time of 54.44. David was almost 5 minute clear of second place Paul Deegan, Gowran AC who also had an excellent sub 60 minute run. Val Gunner, Gowran AC was the bronze medallist with a finishing time of 61 minutes
The Gowran AC A team of Paul Deegan (2), Val Gunner (3), Lyndon Barcoe (4) and Gary Farrell (5) won gold with Gowran AC B team of Muiris Bric (6), Derek Deevey (8), Brendan Kavanagh (9) and Mick Walsh (10) taking silver.
Eoin Molloy, KCH had a good run and the rearguard of Willie McTiernan KCH and Gerry Fogarty, Gowran AC battled for the honours
Most welcome post race Refreshments, bananas, apples oranges and drinks were provided by Gary Farrell of the Aubergine and special thanks to the Aubergine for their sponsorship.
Denis Cormack organised the course which was capably stewarded by Gowran AC stalwarts Marty Kelly and Toddy Farrell.
