County Athletics Award Winners 2011

Athletes from the Counties Athletic Clubs gathered in the restaurant in Gowran Park Race course to celebrate excellence and achievement in Championship Athletics during the  2011 season.  A number of athletes were presented with  individual County Star Awards and also the Club Awards were also presented.

The individual winners came from a number of different clubs and  County Board Treasurer Michael Manning read the citations for each winner. Hearing the achievements alone of these athletes it is easy to see why Kilkenny is rated one of the top counties in Leinster for athletics.  Chairman Denis Cormack presented the athletes with their awards and he also presented the Club Awards.

Masters  Award: Verena Fenlon, St Joseph’s AC

Achievements: Indoors: Leinster : 3 gold and 2 silver: Shot, High Jump, Long Jump, 60

m and 800m;  National : 3 silver: Shot, High Jump and 800m.

Outdoors: Leinster: Gold in the shot, javelin and hammer and silver in the discus; National: gold, silver, bronze and 4th place in the Javelin, Shot, Hammer and Discus.

 

 

Junior Award: Emma Fenlon, St Josephs AC

Achievements: National: silver in triple and long jumps and bronze in the shot

Leinster: silver in the shot and bronze in the triple jump and javelin. County: gold in 400m H, 100m, silver in javelin, discus and shot putt, bronze in the High Jump.

 

Walks Award: Orla Butler, St Senans AC

Achievements: Indoors: Leinster U18 silver, National U18 silver. Outdoors: Leinster U18 Silver, Leinster Junior silver, National U18 5th, County Gold

 

 

Road  Award: David McPherson, KCH and Paul Deegan, Gowran AC

David McPherson: Leinster Road Novice Gold, Team gold, County Silver. National half marathon 72 mins, County 10 mile gold, 10k silver. Paul Deegan: Leinster Masters Silver, team bronze; County 10 mile silver 0/35 gold.

 

 

Senior Cross Country Award: Thos Hayes, Kilkenny City Harriers

Achievements: Leinster Senior 10th, county bronze; Leinster Novice 3rd; Leinster Intermediate 2nd;  National Novice 14th; County Senior 4th, team silver.

Senior Track and Field Award: Austin Lee, St Josephs

 Achievements: Leinster Indoors Gold, Silver Bronze and 5th place in the 60m H, Shot Putt, High Jump and Pole Vault. Leinster Outdoors: silver in five events: high jump, triple jump, pole vault, discus and 110m H. Combined Events bronze at National Indoors and Outdoors. At county level High Jump Gold, discus silver and 4th in the 100m

 

 

 

Juvenile Track and Field Award : Lorraine O Shea,  Kilkenny City Harriers

Achievements: Long Jump specialist winning Leinster Indoor and Outdoor and National Outdoor titles. Leinster Indoor 60m and 200m gold, Leinster Outdoor 200m gold and 100m silver. National Indoor 60m and 200m silver, and outdoor 200m silver and 100m 5th place. Lorraine also won long jump gold at the Celtic International and Scottish Open Championship events.

 

Juvenile Cross Country Award : Bronagh Kearns, St Senans AC

Achievements: Leinster Cross Country Gold U18 and U19, U18 club silver and U19 club gold, U18 county gold, U19 County Gold. National Cross Country U18 bronze and U19 8th place and also winning county U19 silver and U18 bronze medals. County U18 and U19 Gold
 

 

 

International Award: Cliodhna Manning, Kilkenny City Harriers

Achievements: County: 100m and 300m gold, bronze in the shot; Leinster Indoors and Outdoors: 3 golds and a silver in 60m, 200m, 300m; National Indoor and Outdoor: gold in the 60m, 100m and 200m and 300m silver. Scottish Open Gold in 60m; Celtic International 300m gold and relay silver in the 4x100m and bronze in the 4×300
