Thomastown Athletic Club had three teams competing in the all Ireland pair’s competition in Cork on Saturday 23rd June. While they didn’t take home any medals the teams were very competitive in all events.
In the Girls U-10 long jump Anna Cass and Aine Kirwan finished 6th. In the boys U-11 ball throw Tom Holden and Gerard Prentice finished 5th and in the Girls U-11 600m Ciara O’Keeffe and Orla O’Keeffe finished 6th.
Thomastown also qualified for the all Ireland club relays in the girls U-11 but weren’t in the medals. The team was Aine Kirwan, Orla O’Keeffe, Ellen Ryan and Ciara O’Keeffe.
KCH U-9 girls, Emma Manogue, Caoimhe Carroll, Fiona Dillon and Margaret Mary O’Shea, were in Cork on Saturday for the national pairs finals. Emma and Caoimhe ran well to finish 8th in the 60m while Fiona and Margaret Mary placed 7th in the final of the Ball Throw. All four girls then combined to compete in the 4x100m Inter Club relays. Good running and good baton changes brought success as the team finished third bringing these young athletes their first All-Ireland medals with the club.
St Senans athletes also had good success in the Girls U-9 category with Aoife Redmond and Saoirse Allen winning silver in the 300m. Rose Sheridan and Aoife Redmond were 4th in the Long Jump. Rose Sheridan and Saoirse Allen also finished 6th in the 60m race. The Boys U-10 Relay team of Mark and Robert Finn, Nick Kleign and Josh Fenton finished in 4th place.
St Josephs athletes Killian Griffin and Rory O Connor were placed 5th in the Boys U-11 600m final.
