Each team competes in four events plus a relay and each athlete must compete in two events plus the relay. There must be two from each team per event. The placing of both athletes per event are added and the combined score is used to determine the team placing in the event. The scores from all events are then added and the team with the lowest overall score is declared the winner.

The U9 girls were one of the star teams of the day taking home gold. The team was Maria O’Keeffe, Tara Fenlon, Niamh Galway, Aoibhlinn Morrissey and Cliona Ryan.

Destination Ballybofey for KCH U- 10 Relay Specialists

Three teams from KCH made it to the podium at the Leinster Team competition in Celbridge on Saturday. A lively under 13 boys team of Rory McGabhann, Pat O’Shea, Luke Morrissey and Shay McEvoy won silver. It was a similar achievement for under 15 girls Ciara Deely, Sinead Tuohy, Leah Raggett and Martyna Balcer.

However the club stars were the girls under 10 who won gold. The team of Emma Shortall, Emma Manogue, Rachel Leahy and Fiona Dillon could be described as relay specialists given their track record so far this year. Following a good cross-country season they have now shown great prowess on the track. In early April they came first in the 4x100m relay at open sports in Crookstown, Co Kildare. Later in the month it was first again in Carlow. In May at  the County Championships in Scanlon Park they were first team under 10 and second under 11..  More recently they placed second under 11 at an open sports in Ballon-Rathoe. And now they are Leinster Team Champions. With this history behind them they will travel  to Donegal at the end of the month for the All-Ireland athletics track and field finals under 9, 10 and 11.

In addition Emma Manogue and Fiona Dillon will represent the club in the 500m National Pairs and Emma Shortall and Caoimhe Carroll will compete in the 60m Pairs.

The boys under 10 relay team, having placed third in Leinster, will also travel to Donegal and hope to give a good account of themselves. Two members of the relay team, Michael Raggett and Cian Farrell, will also compete in the 60m Pairs final.

St Josephs  had two teams on the podium
