Gold for Thomastown at the Antrim International Cross Country

Thomastown AC girls’ U-13 team of Fiona Dillon, Aine Kirwan, Hannah O’Keeffe and Orla O’Keeffe who took team gold at the IAAF Antrim International Cross Country which was held  in Cafre, Greenmount Campus, Antrim on Sat 16th Jan 2016.

Under heavy underfoot conditions with athletes from England, Wales, Scotland in the field Thomastown athletes put in a fine performances and were always to the fore in the race over 1800m. In a race won by English athlete Femke Rosbergen CoNAC (City of Norwich AC,) Thomastown’s Fiona Dillon and Aine Kirwan put in a great runs to finish in 4th and 5th place and followed by Hannah O’Keeffe in 9th and Orla O’Keeffe in 26th Thomastown took the team title ahead of City of Lisburn (2nd), Dundrum South Dublin(3rd).

 

In the primary schools race over 1100m Orlaith Kirwan while giving a year or two to some competitors put in a great performance to finish in 6th place. It was a great experience for the girls and an enjoyable day for all who made the long journey to Antrim.
