Fantastic performance from Ciara Deely to secure 2nd place in what was another PB from this very in-form KCH athlete. Competing for Loreto Ciara secured the World Junior B standard for a 3rd time in 3 weeks. We all look forward to seeing more PBs in the coming 7 weeks. Also on a podium position was David Murphy of Gowran. Competing for CBS Kilkenny David finished 3rd in the Senior Boys 100m.
Nicky Connelly of Castlecomer was 2nd in the senior boys racewalking. Putting Castlecomer on the map for medals. In doing so he recorded a new PB.
Ciara was not the only athlete from the County at the schools All Irelands. Five St Senans athletes competed, while none got medals they did get some PBs and more importantly some valuable national experience and exposure. Well done to Aoife Allen (Steeplechase), Tadgh Connolly (Shot), Joe Roche (Discus), Tara Ramasawmy (1,500m) and Sophie Jackman (300m Hurdles) – quiet an array of events from this southern club. KCH also had a total of 5 athletes, Ciara and club mates – James Kearney (Steeplechase), Shay McEvoy and Adam Fitzpatrick (1,500m) and Lauren Gleeson (100m). Again like St Senans the latter 4 athletes did not manage podium positions but did well indeed. Fiona Dillon (Thomastown) competed in the 1,500m and finished 6th having been in the first 3 for most of the race. But the positive was she was beaten by athletes who were a year her senior – which arguers well for her up and coming Leinsters.
Also competing in the All Ireland schools was former St Senans athlete Aaron Donnelly. Aaron moved to Dublin 2 years ago and still retains his ties with his old club despite now competing for Dundrum South Dublin. His family and friends back in Slieverue and Kilmacow were delighted to see him win the senior boys Steeplechase. Once a Kilkenny man, always a Kilkenny man.
