Isn’t it great to see so many kids in Kilkenny interested in Cross Country? On a lovely November morning with fields fresh from a nights rain, and the temperatures a pleasant 14 degrees, Kilmacow played host to the County B Championships. Parents armed with a fresh cup of coffee (I hope those cups were eco friendly!) flocked south to see their kids race their hearts out.
Young Mia Brennan of Thomastown was literally flying in the girls u8, when she claimed victory over Katie Byrne of Barrow Harriers. In the boys Aaron Carrigan of Gowran had a tough race, when he and David Hayden of Barrow Harriers fought hard all the way – with the Gowran man claiming the gold in this instance.
In the girls u10 over 50 athletes started with Kate Hayden of Gowran notching up the pace to beat Grace Gilmartin of St Senans. Third was Katie O’Shea of Thomastown. The boys u10 saw KCH man Paul Millea, give a look over his shoulder to convince himself he was safe from fast finishing Evan Ryan of Gowran and Kyle Bolger of St Josephs. Castlecomer had an army of u10s in this race with Charlie Ryan and Alex Daly filling the next two spots.
Eabha Mullally of St Josephs looked a class act when she won the girls u12 from Roisin Burns of KCH. In the boys u12 it was Thomastown in the first two spots with Ronan Conway claiming gold from Billy O’Keeffe.
Grace Glennon (SJ) won the girls u14 with Luke Phelan (G) winning the boys. Pia O’Grady (G) won the girls u16 and Billy Power (TT) winning the boys.
Well done to everyone who competed today.
