2018 ALL IRELAND SNR/JUV EVENs

The All Ireland Seniors and Juvenile championships are always a good days sport. With many clubs having representatives in the juvenile races, some also had athletes in the senior races.

The county had 10 individual medals overall. Leaders were St Senans with 5 individual medals, Thomastown had 2, KCH had 2 and Gowran had 1 individual medal.

Overall it was St Senans who produced the largest medal haul of the day with 16 medals followed by Thomastown with 15, KCH with 4, Gowran with 2 and St Josephs with 1. The county was 1st u18 girls and 3rd Junior girls. There was plenty representation on Leinster teams that won medals.

Kilkenny has lots of wonderfully talented athletes at all levels of ability. That we certainly do not lack. The problem is that we often are missing them for county teams. What could see the county feature more often in the medals would be a more concerted effort by athletes to turn up for competitions. You don’t have to win to be able to run in Leinsters. That is the beauty of a team event – you get to be part of that effort that gets the medal. We would love more people to be part of these teams.

We now have three athletes selected for the Celtic International o be held near Belfast in January. Tadgh Connolly (St Senans), Hannah Kehoe (Gowran) and Hannah O’Keeffe (Thomastown). Fantastic achievement.
