Billy makes International debut

Derby September, 2021

Billy Coogan was on international duty at the weekend in Derby, England competing on the Irish team in the steeplechase. Representing Ireland and CBS Kilkenny, the Gowran athlete took 4 seconds off his PB. He finished in 6th place. This is Billy’s international debut. However, it has not been the first time he has been selected to represent Ireland. Back in March 2020, Billy along with David Williams (St Senans) and Caoimhe Phelan (St Senans) were selected to represent Ireland for the SIAB cross country in Falkirk, Scotland. Alas Covid hit, the country went into lockdown and the athletes never for their opportunity to race.

Billy won the All Ireland u17 steeplechase at this years athletics Ireland championships. He finished 2nd in the Tailteann Games a few weeks ago, thereby securing his place on the Irish team.
