Gold for KCH & Thomastown A.C at Leinster Team events – Sunday 1st June 2015.
The Leinster juvenile team events took place on Sunday 1st June at a wet and windy Tullamore Harriers track.
In the team event two athletes from each club compete in each event with their combined time/score giving the final placing. The team competes in four events followed by a relay race at the end with the lowest overall team score winning gold.
KCH had teams in the Girls 10, 11, 12 &15, Boys U10, 11, 12, and Thomastown had three teams competing, the girls U12, U13 and U14.
KCH collected gold in the girls U11, boys U12 with silver in boys U10, girls U12, & U15, Thomastown collected gold in the girls U12 and bronze in girls U15.
U10 Team events.
KCH under 10 boys were very much involved with two teams competing and both performing well. The Brian Moore, Daniel Ring, Matthew Kavanagh and James Kavanagh squad finished second and the Sean Young, Ruairi McEvoy, Ed Lauhoff and Louis Raggett team were sixth. It was sixth again for Aisling Browne, Emily Smith, Sinead Carroll and Ruth Walshe in girls under 10.
U11 Team events.
KCH under 11 girls were the first to claim gold. A great effort by Diane Ibe, Orla Kenny, Isabel Roberts and Ella Delahunty. The KCH under 11 boys put in a very steady performance and just missed out on the bronze medals by one point. The team was Ned Langton, Harry Boyle, Tom Greene and Conor Byrne.
U12 Team events.
Kilkenny teams dominated the girls U12 team event by taking the gold and silver medals. Thomastown’s girls U12 team of Emma Manogue, Fiona Dillon, Ava Shefflin and Orla Walsh backed up by substitutes Katie Taylor and Marie O’Keeffe performed best on the day to take the team gold. They were closely followed by KCH’s team of Rachel Leahy, Tara McGuire, Emma Shortall and Eleanor Godden winning silver.
KCH boys U12 team were in flying form with Mikey Raggett, Harry Shine, Jack Alymer and Conor Kavanagh claiming the clubs second set of gold medals.
U13 Team Events.
Thomastown girls U13 team of Aine Kirwan, Edie Maher, Isabelle Ryan & Anna Cass performed very well with some fine individual performances and finished just outside the medals in 4th place.
U15 Team Events.
Kilkenny teams were to the fore again in the Girls U15 team event this time taking silver and bronze medals with KCH taking the silver medals and Thomastown the bronze medals Both the KCH team of Issy Shine, Annie McEvoy, Jennifer Leahy and Lizzy McGee
and the Thomastown AC team of Alice Monahan, Ciara O’Keeffe, Orla O’Keeffe, Ellen Ryan and substitute Sinead O’Keeffe performed very steady all day and on a day with a large entry of teams and a good spread of results between all teams the girls finished off the day by taking 2nd and 3rd place overall when the points were added up for all events.
