A great day for county Kilkenny athletes in the National Juniors and u/23 Indoors today in Athlone. Some strong performances and promising athletic careers from and for our transitioning athletes.
Brow Rangers proved their strength as a throwing club when they came home with not only the most throwing medals but also the most medals from Kilkenny Clubs in general. A great achievement from this small Coon based club. John Joe Kelly took two silvers, in the shot putt and weight for distance u/23 with clubmate Ciaran Coady in 4th place for the weight for distance. In the Juniors Patrick Darcy won the wieght for distance and was 3rd in the shot putt. With great coaches and mentors in the father/son team of Murty and Joe Kelly, Brow and the rest of Kilkenny are very lucky and thankful to our Coon hero’s for their talents and coaching abilities. Both Joe and Murty are always on hand to help out fellow county clubs with the throwers and for that Kilkenny is always greatful to them. Well down lads.
Great run by Ciara Deely in the 400m Junior final – she never looked in danger of being beaten as she stormed to a brilliant 55.14 victory. This is a new PB for Ciara. Fellow clubmate Annie McEvoy was 3rd in the Junior 800m.
St Josephs Sophie Becker had a convincing win in the u/23 200m – she was always in control of the race and finished a comfortable winner. Fellow clubmate Eoin Power was 2nd in the u/23 Pole Vault.
Gowran’s David Murphy started the Junior 200m as favourite and as favourites go – he was a safe bet. He took control of his race from the start and looked very much at ease as he rounded the last bend into the final 60m. He was another convincing Kilkenny winner.
