INTERNATIONAL ROUND UP (AUGUST)

To cumulate the track and field season we had two international events where Kilkenny athletes were represented. Firstly the inaugeral youth nations in Dublin. This was a contest between Ireland and England and replaces the long running Celtic International. It is hoped that more nations will take part in the future.
Jordan Knight (St Josephs) was representing Ireland in the 4 x 400m relay. Great to report that it was gold for the team.
Next we had another relativly new event the European Team championships. This is the second year of this event where athletes compete not for individual medals but for the overall team placing. Something akin to the National League concept – except for nations and not clubs. Sophie Becker (St Josephs) was representing Ireland in the 200m and the 4 x 400m relay. In the 200m Sophie qualified for the final but unfortunatly injury struck. Thus she was unable to compete in both the final and the relay. We wish her good luck for a rapid recovery.
