O40 Masters Cross Country

St. Joseph’s AC once again hosted another great event on Friday evening, with the O40’s under the lights in Albatross, Rosbercon. The Ladies O40 3000m was the first race off with athletes from St. Joseph’s and St. Senan’s competing for the top 3 places. Maria Griffin St. Joseph’s was the worthy winner in 1st place, Sinead Madden St. Senan’s was runner up in 2nd with Eimear Barron St. Joseph’s taking the bronze in 3rd. St. Joseph’s won the Ladies team event with Maggie Helen O’Conor and Susan Lanigan adding to the team. The St. Senan’s Ladies team took silver with Caroline O’Connor and Esther Lannon finishing in 7th and 8th.

The Men’s O40 6000m saw 13 athletes from four different clubs competing on the night. Jp Vereker St. Joseph’s was the fastest man home in 1st place, with Paddy Aylward following closely behind him in 2nd. Paul Moran of Thomastown was 3rd overall in the 6000m. The Thomastown men’s team were the winners on count back with St. Joseph’s taking the silver team and St. Senan’s the bronze team medal. Well done to all competing and huge thanks to all the crew in St. Joseph’s for a great course and the welcoming refreshments afterwards. Full results below:

Autumn Open International Cross Country

Athletics Ireland hosted the Autumn Open International that included the Juvenile Inter Club Relays in the National Sports Campus Abbottstown on Sunday last. The day kicked off with the Senior Mixed Relay event followed shortly after by the National Juvenile Inter Club Relays. Kilkenny City Harriers had 10 teams competing throughout the various age groups including the mixed relays. First up was the Girls U11 4x500m race that saw 4 teams representing the club, with really great performances from all the girls, with their KCH C team being the first team home in 6th, followed by KCH A in 25th, KCH D in 30th and KCH B in 34th place. There was one team in the Girls U13 race which placed an impressive 11th place out of 32 teams. The U15 Girls team ran a fantastic race with their last runner Amelia O’Brien just edging out Mullingar Harriers to take the top spot. A closely run race that saw mere seconds on the clock between 1st place KCH (13:28), 2nd place Mullingar Harriers (13:29) and 3rd place Finn Valley (13:30).

The U12 mixed relay saw a massive crowd take to the start line as 43 teams competed overall, with 4 teams from Kilkenny City Harriers taking on the 4x500m. On the day it was the KCH A that was first home in 12th place, with KCH C following in 25th, KCH B in 31st and KCH D in 38th. Full list of athletes:

Girls U15 1st Katie Byrne, Marija Kraljevic, Emily O’Keeffe, Amelia O’Brien, Heidi Ryan The Senior Women’s race was the first race off on the senior timetable with Hannah Kehoe of Kilkenny City Harriers the sole Kilkenny athlete in the race. Hannah had an excellent run placing 16th out of the 32 runners finishing the 6000m in a time of 22:42. In the Master Women’s 4500m Adele Walsh St. Senan’s, ran an incredible 25:11 for 4500m to finish in 4th place in the Women’s O50. There were three Kilkenny athletes running in the U20 Women’s 4500m with Abigail O’Regan St. Senan’s placing 6th in 17:14 and 1st of the three Kilkenny finishers. Clodagh O’Callaghan Kilkenny City Harriers was just seconds behind in 17:18 to finish 9th, with fellow KCH club mate Pia Langton placing 11th in 17:37. Fantastic running from all three ladies. In the Men’s U20 6000m, Kilkenny City Harriers had three athletes competing Callum Barron, Ruairi McEvoy and Kyrell Mtinsi. Callum was the first home for the club in a great time placing 6th in 19:29 and Ruairi in 7th in 19:43. Kyrell was 21st home out of the 33 runners competing in a great time of 21:10. The Senior and Master Men’s were run together over the 8000m distance. Two of Kilkenny City Harriers senior athletes Cathal O’Reilly and William Fox were in contention with Callum running home in 12th place in a superb time of 25:47, and William finishing in 27:19, to place 37th out of 51 runners.
