National U20 & U23 Championships

It was another exciting weekend of athletics for the U20 & U23 athletes at the 123.ie National Championships in Athlone, where more Championship records fell in the 400m for Molly Daly Kilkenny City Harriers and Pia Langton Kilkenny City Harriers in the 1500m. Molly won her heat comfortably and then produced an outstanding performance running two seconds faster in the final to fight off the challenge of Erin Friel (Letterkenny AC) to win the gold. Molly not only set a new Championship record in 53.74 but she also bettered the qualifying standards for the World U20 Championships and places her 2^nd on the all-time U20 indoor list behind Rhasidat Adeleke. Pia Langton also set the track alight, as she went to battle with Freya Renton (Westport AC) in the U20 1500m. Pia fought to hang onto her well established lead claiming the gold in 4:21.77 to set a new U20 Championship Record and like Molly, she has secured the World U20 Qualifying standard.  Evan Walsh St. Joseph’s, who is returning to form after picking up an injury back in November, won the bronze medal in the U20 Walks finishing with a PB in 13.45 over the 3000m.
