Leinster Juvenile and Relays

Day 2 of the Leinster Indoor Championships was the ever exhilarating chaos of fast starts, safe baton exchanges and adrenaline sprint finishes that ensues at the Juvenile Indoor Relays. Such is the enthusiasm of the relays in the younger ages, that heats and finals are a must, unlike the older age groups where straight finals would suffice. On a day that Ratoath Athletics dominated the track for the most part, Kilkenny City Harriers were Kilkenny’s only club to race teams and on the podium for both even and uneven ages. Eight out of the twelve teams that took to the track medalled on the day with 1 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze all heading back to the club. There were also events in the Pole Vault, Shot Put, High Jump and Triple Jump for older juveniles from U15-U19. Brow Rangers, Gowran, Kilkenny City Harriers and St. Senan’s had athletes compete in these events with medals and All Ireland Qualifications earned for the Nationals that take place later in a few weeks. Huge well done to all who those ran, jumped or threw over the weekend, in highly competitive events where new Championship Records were set, new PB’s achieved and with plenty to look forward to at Nationals given the great results across the whole weekend.
