Leinster Juvenile Indoors Day 3 & 4

Kilkenny Athletes shine at Leinsters

The final two days of the Leinster Indoor Championships took place in Athlone over the weekend and once again the race walks dominated the medal haul, with 13 medals won by 5 different clubs across all the age categories on Day 1 of the competition. Castlecomer, Gowran, Kilkenny City Harriers, St. Senan’s and St. Joseph’s all had podium winners with U14 upwards advancing to the All Ireland’s in late March. The weekend overall produced some fantastic performances with over 40 medals won, and seven juvenile clubs all winning silverware for their efforts. The stand out race on Saturday saw Molly Daly Kilkenny City Harriers setting a new Championship Record in the Girls U19 400m final knocking over two seconds off the previous time, winning the race in 54.44. Cillian Maher Kilkenny City Harriers also set a new Championship Record in the Boys U13 1000m race walk in a time of 5:13.08, nearly a minute faster than the record set last year.
