National Juvenile Indoor Championships

Athlone was once again a thriving hub of exhilarating track and field events this weekend as the National Juvenile Indoors took centre stage in the arena. Qualifying athletes from the five Provincial competitions, competed for the top spot, with a number of National Records set throughout the weekend. There were seven clubs from Kilkenny represented by their athletes in various events with 5 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals returning home to the Marble City after another successful weekend. St. Senan’s had three of their race walkers winning bronze medals on Sunday, Ellie May Aylward 3rd in U13 1000m Walk, Tadhg O’Callaghan 3rd in U15 1000m and Kerry Widger 3rd in the U17 1500m. Molly Daly Kilkenny City Harriers set the track alight again this weekend winning the gold and setting another New Championship record in the Girls U19 400m race with a time of 54.25. Fiach Crowley Kilkenny City Harriers won gold in the U16 200m’s on Saturday, while Clodagh O’Callaghan Kilkenny City Harriers took bronze in the Girls U19 800m’s race that afternoon. Victor Lamph won the 3rd gold for Kilkenny City Harriers in the Boys U18 400m on Sunday whilst also setting a New Championship Record of 48.97. Gowran’s two medals were won, one on Saturday when Sean Farrell took gold in the Boys U15 Pole Vault, and then on Sunday when Aoibhlinn Steger won silver in the U18 Girls Pole Vault. Evan Walsh St. Joseph’s maintained his winning streak claiming the top spot and the gold medal on Sunday in the Boys U19 1500m race walks. Congratulations to all those that had qualified and competed at the weekend, and best of luck to all those competing at the last weekend of the Indoor Season in two weeks’ time.
