Tullamore Half Marathon

Tullamore Half Marathon

As it has done for many years previously the Tullamore Half Marathon incorporates the Kilkenny County Half Marathon and Leinster Half Marathon road race also. Individuals and teams from various athletic clubs in the county had runners representing them over the 21km course. Many of the athletes might have trained in the glorious sunshine for the past three month in preparation for the race, but unfortunately the turn in the weather at the beginning of the week continued. To run 21km certainly is a test of endurance and athletic ability but to do so in thunderous, wet and windy conditions like those that fell all day Saturday is nothing short of admirable. Over 45 Kilkenny athletes braved the conditions, with James Kelly Castlecomer taking the position of 1st home for the county in the Men’s race in a time of 1:14.05. Joe Keohane Gowran was 2nd Male home in the county in a time of 1:15.35, with Sean Connery King’s River hot on his heels for 3rd in 1:15.56. Castlecomer took gold in the Men’s team, with Kilkenny City Harriers 2nd and Gowran 3rd. The county was 6th overall in the Leinster Senior County category, and 5th overall in the Leinster O35+ category.

In the Ladies race Sally Forristal stormed home the 1st lady for the county in 1:25.40. Kilkenny City Harriers Aoife Nolan and Emma Ayres secured 2nd and 3rd place, Aoife crossing the line in 1:27.42 and Emma in 1:29.05. Kilkenny City Harriers took all three team medals gold, silver and bronze in the Ladies. Kilkenny City Harriers were 2nd in the Leinster Senior Club category, and Kilkenny 2nd in the Leinster County category. Well done to all who competed on the day, and best of luck to those in preparation for Dublin City Marathon which will also incorporate the Kilkenny County marathon road race on the 24th October 2026.
